This summer, Richard M. Mausner, a seasoned attorney with more than 40 years of legal experience, officially became licensed to practice law in Florida. At 70 years old, he did what most attorneys wouldn’t even attempt – he passed one of the toughest bar exams in the country and joined his son, Eric Mausner, as part of the MG team.
“I’m super excited for him,” said Eric. “It’s inspiring. Most people would never take on something like this at 70. But my dad did, and now we get to work together. He already has a case on the books.”
A Full-Circle Moment
Richard’s legal roots go back to 1980, when he started his career at his father’s law firm in New Jersey. He went on to practice estate planning, real estate, litigation, and business law, eventually running his own firm for decades. Over the years, his experience grew deeper, but so did his connection to Florida, where his family spent increasing time.
Eric floated the idea of taking the Florida Bar. His daughter Amanda jumped in to help find the best prep resources. Before long, it turned into a serious goal – and a family mission.
Preparing for the Florida Bar Exam required Richard to study areas of law he hadn’t touched in years and learn Florida-specific statutes from scratch. But with discipline, support, and a lot of persistence, he got it done.

When Richard passed and was sworn in by Judge Milton Hirsch (whose courtroom Eric once worked in as a prosecutor), the news made waves. Law.com’s Daily Business Review featured his journey. Lawyers around the country took notice.
